About The Author So, who is Dick Gustafson?  Born to a working class family in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Dick has a strong small town work ethic, values, faith, and sense of responsibility.   Be sure to watch the video about his life story at the bottom of this page!  Dick's elementary education was obtained on military bases in California, Oregon, Texas, N. Carolina, Massachusetts, and Nebraska. In high school he became an Eagle Scout and earned an Explorer Scout Silver award presented by President Truman at the White House. He was also elected International Trustee of Key Club and gave the keynote address at the Los Angeles convention. He earned degrees from four Universities, including an AB, MBA, GRI, & Trust banking degree. Dick became a financial advisor, trained by the Bank of America, Johnson County National Bank, Dean Witter, Edward Jones, and AXA-Advisors. He owned and operated Vail, Colorado’s "The Hardware Store" for 9 yrs. He taught a variety of courses at seminars nationally, including topics covering team building, problem solving, and conflict resolution. As a two-term Eagle County Commissioner, Dick was instrumental in developing the Eagle County Airport, the Justice Center, the County Administration campus, and the Eagle Retirement Center. As a member of the Colorado River District Board, he created the "Eagle River Assembly" to facilitate water negotiations and chaired the Home Stake Hearings. Eagle County hired Dick as a consultant to successfully secure the airport’s control tower, it's financing, radar, and the runway expansion. Since 1973 Dick Gustafson and his family were Eagle County residents, raising their two children, Lynda and Rick. Since the year 2000, Dick has faced a number of challenges, including cancer, numerous surgeries, a tumor in the brain, and Parkinson’s disease.  Recently Dick and his wife, Wendy, moved to a small community called Holly Creek in Centennial Colorado because of complications from Parkinson’s disease. Despite numerous personal challenges, Dick has continued to pursue his life’s mission of contributing to his community in a variety of ways. His participation at Holly Creek includes running a closed circuit radio station called “HCRK” that benefits his community, including helping those who are immobile or sight impaired and find it difficult to leave their apartment or cottage. The diversity of this man can only be understood as you get to know him.  Every day spent with Dick is an adventure that composed of new topics, experiences, and people.  It’s always a surprise to hear about his next project or journey.   Dick has several writings in the works, including a recently finished sequel to his first published novel One in the Hand... and is hoping to publish both books together in eBook format soon.
